"50 Years of Forensic Concrete Petrography and Aggregate Studies"
First Meeting of 2019
Thursday January 10, 2019
11:30 am at Casa Chapala
Mr. Patty joined WJE in 1981, as manager of the Austin office from 1981-2000. He has completed over 4,500 petrographic and chemical testing investigations. Representative project experience includes concrete petrography and aggregate studies for slabs-on-grade; elevated slabs; parking garages; precast and other architectural components; facades; stucco systems; CMU blocks; faux stone; grouts; mortars, including those from historical structures; and natural building stone.
Mr. Patty has provided expert testimony for court cases involving geologic occurrences and engineering properties of aggregates and stone. He has made further studies in masonry, efflorescence and cement burns. His knowledge of forensic petrography as well as geological and biological systems has enabled him to testify in civil and criminal cases.
From 1968 to 1981, Mr. Patty was a research geologist and concrete petrographer for the Materials and Test Division of the TxDOT. His studies resulted in over 25 research and technical publications for the highway department in areas such as engineering properties of constructional aggregates, skid resistance, and concrete petrography.
