A Presentation by Mr. Ramon Carrasquillo

"What Can the Owner Expect to Get From a 100 Year Service Life Specification"
Dr. Ramón Carrasquillo is the Founder and President of Carrasquillo Associates (CA). Ramón is recognized worldwide for his expertise in concrete materials, construction, and structural engineering. He has completed over 500 consulting assignments ranging from product developments, materials, and production of concrete to durability, specifications, construction practices, failure analyses, and repair and rehabilitation of existing structures. Ramón was a professor and researcher at The University of Texas at Austin for 22 years. From 1992 to 1996, Ramón was the Associate Director of the International Center for Aggregates Research. In addition, Ramón was the Founder and President of Rainbow Materials, Inc., a ready mix concrete company which operated in the Central Texas market from 1994 until 2004. Ramón has published over 100 academic publications and reports and given over 400 technical presentations.

"Marcasite, Pyrite and Related Issues in Texas"
Tom received his B.S. in Geology from Midwestern State University in 1960 and his M.S. in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1968. Tom was a research geologist and concrete petrographer for TxDOT from 1968 to 1981 and has since worked at WJE. Tom has participated in significant research projects, historical analyses, and litigation support on a wide range of topics from aggregate evaluations to concrete deterioration and petrographic examinations. Tom won the 2006 Truett Latimer Award given to a working professional who demonstrates a significant commitment and sustained involvement to preservation as part of their job responsibilities.

A Presentation by Mr. Richard Rogers, PE

"Designing for Long Life Pavements"
Rich is a member of the Cement Council of Texas; his concrete pavement responsibilities for technical guidance, with the design, construction and maintenance of concrete pavements and marketing that includes: highways and airports. Additionally, serving as a member of the TxDOT Concrete Pavement Work Group and on the TRB Committee AFD50, Concrete Pavement Design and Rehabilitation. Rich was previously a member of Transtec Group, TxDOT and served in the USAF as a Civil Engineering Officer. Rich received a M.S. in Civil Engineering, from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Military Institute. Rich is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.

JANUARY'S SPEAKER - Andy Naranjo, P.E.

"Two-Lift Paving"
Andy Naranjo , P.E. is currently the Rigid Pavements and Concrete Materials Branch Manager of the Constriction Division of TxDOT, and oversees concrete pavement design and construction, as well as provides statewide support for concrete material related issues. Andy received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 2000 and his M.S. in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 2007. Andy has been a registered professional engineer in Texas since 2005.
